Thanks to the La Meseta Coffee Company “La Francia” resumes its coffee vocation
Very close to the village of La Estrella that forms part of the municipality of Chinchiná, you will find ‘La Francia’, an Hacienda that for many years was important for the production of coffee and generated employment for the people that lived in the surrounding areas, and also itinerant workers.
Alongside other important Haciendas of the municipality, “La Francia” stood out for contributing a significant amount of grain to the coffee market, contributing to maintain the levels of production that led to Chinchiná appearing to be one of the great producers of coffee in the national panorama.
Throughout a period in which the cattle became present in the sector, its fertile lands were covered with pastures where a single caporal accompanied by four horsemen, were enough to corral and take care of more than 300 heads of cattle that grazed on more than 50 hectares of land.
Thanks to the commitment of the Coffee Company La Meseta, and its full confidence in the power of coffee, “La Francia” once again is resuming its coffee vocation and since 2015 the company has made every effort, so that its agricultural spirit flourishes and Coffee will continue, once more, to be its leading product. Thanks to a firm decision and hard work, according to the Agricultural Engineer, Yesid Alejandro López, Administrator of “La Francia”, 720,000 coffee trees were planted. Also new modern facilities are being built, so that collectors and workers can enjoy a comfortable stay. This has allowed direct jobs to be generated for 250 people who work for 4 months, and another 120 who work for an 8 month period.
Better yet, the people that live in the villages ‘La Estrella’, ‘El Trebol’ and ‘Buenavista’ are happy because in the months of October and November the first crop will allow them to improve their economic income.
“La Francia” expects to receive between 100 and 150 people to work – men and women – this being one of the main social objectives of La Meseta. We will continue to work to promote “La Francia” as one of the main Haciendas for the production of coffee and a great generator of employment in the municipality of Chinchiná.
2016 has probably been the best year for the company in its history. Well-founded, its CEO defines it as the year of the business consolidation, as company achievements suggest it.
Agricultural Development, La Meseta has taken advantage of its basis experience to:
1. Strengthen Vertical Integration.
2. Market special and differentiated coffees.
3. Market certified, sustainable, and/or environmentally responsible coffees.
4. Support the company financial position. Sales in advance which guarantee profitability for the company.
5. Generate employment opportunities for vulnerable population in the area of influence.

Flourishing and Renewal of Colombian Coffee
Colombian coffee sector has had the fortune to grow and flourish in a year that coffee power continued gaining caffeine fans. Coffee business -especially during the second semester- has been accompanied by good prices for producers, a significant production increase and favorable quality conditions. These circumstances have provided a positive environment to the demanding coffee production process and trade.
We think these positive aspects have prepared this country for similar and probably higher levels of production in the coming years, which are necessary to meet the increasing demand for soft, different and special types of coffee. For these reasons, La Meseta Coffee Company has called this year, the flourishing and renewal year; a year with favorable conditions to strengthen this business field, recover reliance on coffee business profitability, contribute with the country economy stability in critical moments; and probably, the most important, to continue creating social structures in isolated areas and vulnerable populations claiming for peace.

Flourishing and Renewal of Coffee
The Colombian coffee sector has been fortunate to have a renaissance and blossom in a year in which caffeine skeptics have been subdued by the power of coffee. In the second semester, the coffee business has been accompanied by price levels that are attractive to coffee producers, a substantial production volume increase, and favorable conditions for quality; these characteristics have provided an environment favorable to an always demanding coffee production and commercialization business. We consider that these positive situations have prepared the country for similar, and possibly superior, production levels for the following years; these production levels are required by an increasing demand of soft coffee and an increasing interest for specialty and differentiated coffees. Due to the aforementioned reasons, La Meseta has declared 2017 as the year of renaissance and blossoming; a year of propitious conditions for the strengthening sector, the recovery of a lost faith in the profitability of coffee activity, the countries strengthening economic support in demanding times, and, maybe the most important aspect, the continuation of building the social fabric in remote areas and vulnerable populations that want peace.
